How the interactive 3D Cube outperformed the classic banner

About the Brand

St. Nicolaus represents several brands, primarily from the alcoholic beverage segment. However, this campaign focused on the non-alcoholic product TEAZZ, an iced tea targeting people aged 18 to 45 in Slovakia.

Campaign Objective

Reach. Awareness. Visibility.

The primary objective was to maximize reach and increase brand awareness across the target audience. The campaign was optimized for viewable impressions. The media mix consisted of audio (Spotify, YouTube, Audioxi), YouTube video, static banners, and an interactive 3D Cube to bring the campaign to life. A budget of €2,500 for three months was allocated to the rich media format.

Why We Tested the 3D Cube Alongside the Classic Format

We wanted to test whether an innovative interactive format could deliver the same or even greater value than a proven static banner. The campaign ran exclusively in a brand-safe environment, using a whitelist of 200 carefully selected websites.

The 3D Cube ran throughout the entire campaign in the 300 × 250 format, while static banners ran simultaneously in the following formats: 970 × 250, 728 × 90, 160 × 600, 300 × 600, 336 × 280, and 300 × 250. We compared the performance of both formats at 300 × 250, the only size in which both ran simultaneously.

First Month (JUNE)

The campaign launched in June in the 300 × 250 format.

From the very first month, the 3D Cube attracted more users while achieving similar visibility to static banners.

CTR: The 3D Cube Attracts More Attention

The campaign was not primarily optimized for clicks. The main objective was reach and viewable impressions. Nevertheless, the 3D Cube achieved a higher CTR in the 300 × 250 format than the static banner, showing that the interactive format was able to attract more attention than a classic banner.

CPM: Lower Cost

CPM, or cost per thousand ad impressions, showed us how much it cost to reach one thousand people.

Since the campaign objective was reach and brand awareness, this was one of the most important metrics. Despite being an interactive and technically more demanding format, the 3D Cube achieved a lower CPM. This meant we paid less per thousand impressions than with the static banner in the 300 × 250 format.

From a Brand Awareness campaign perspective, this is clearly a positive result. We paid less for the same or even better reach.

CPC: An Additional Bonus

CPC was not the main KPI of the campaign. The primary focus was reach and brand awareness. However, the higher CTR of the 3D Cube naturally resulted in a lower cost per click in the 300 × 250 format, providing an additional benefit to the campaign.

Impression Volume

Impressions clearly demonstrated the reach this format was able to achieve during the campaign. The 3D Cube in the 300 × 250 format generated up to 114,000 impressions over the course of the campaign.

The Innovative Format Delivered More for Less

  • Lower CPM across all formats
  • Higher CTR across all formats
  • Lower CPC as an additional benefit
  • Slightly lower visibility, offset by better cost efficiency and engagement

All of this was achieved with a budget of just €2,500 over three months and in a 100% brand-safe environment using a whitelist of 200 websites.

The interactive 3D Cube not only enhanced the campaign visually but also outperformed the classic static banner across key performance metrics, particularly in terms of lower costs.
